Local policing in Tooting is changing with the Wandsworth Metropolitan Police implementing the Local Policing Model (LPM) on Monday 16 September 2013. Merton Metropolitan Police has already implemented the Local Policing Model in the parts of Tooting SW17 within the Borough of Merton on Monday 8 July 2013. Broadly speaking this new model of policing will see 3 local policing areas (LPA) being introduced across a borough, covering a number of Safer Neighbourhood Team areas, with each local policing area being looked after by a dedicated police inspector. The main difference with the Local Policing Model will be that it will make it easier for police to move around between different wards / safer neighbourhood team areas within a LPA instead of being confined to their own specific area.
